Competition Information of The 8th China Harbin

International Ice-assemblage Sculpture Championship

COMPETITION PERIOD:

December 31, 2018 to January 4, 2019.

TEAM COMPOSITION:

Each team will have a maximum of four persons aged 18 or older. The team members shall reside in or be a citizen of the country represented.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

1. Each team will be provided with 10 natural ice blocks with the dimension of each 0.8 m. highx1.8 m. widex0.5 m. deep. Under the ice block, there is a 0.6 m. high pedestal with inlaid lights which is ready before the contest.

2.Each team engraves one sculpture. Sculptures may not be over 3 m. in height. The blocks of ice shall be used no less than 80 percent. The site of each team will be decided according to registration order.

3. The team can apply for moving the ice blocks by machine in the competition. No other ice blocks may be used other than the ones provided. No colorants may be added and no other materials may be used in the sculpture. No supports or armature may be used in or on the final sculpture.

4.Only the four enrolled team members can be part of the work. In case of withdrawal of a team member after work has begun, the team must continue on and cannot add another person to the team.

TOOLS:

Special tools for ice carving will be the own responsibility of each team. The organizer will provide a few of the following tools: climbing equipment, take-off and landing forklift, buckets and shovel, and will arrange people to clean the site. As for the electric tools (electric chain saws and drills), you are advised to notify the organizer of the voltage and power in advance. Sculptors use all tools at their own risk and liability.

SCULPTURE DISPLAY:

The competition is held in public and the sculpture will be displayed and remain intact at the competition site in the Ice and Snow World through February 15th(weather permitting).

JUDGING:

A jury will be selected from all walks of life and well-known artists by the Organizing Committee.

PRIZE:

1stPrize one team RMB 15,000

2ndPrize two teams RMB 12,000

3rdPrize three teams RMB 9,000

Special Prize one team RMB 3,000

Other teams will be awarded certificates and medals.

EXPENSES:

All lodging, meals and local transportation for each team of four persons will be covered by the Organizer during the period from Dec. 30, 2018 to Jan. 5, 2019(including Dec. 30 and Jan. 5). Room service, laundry service, long distance phone calls and any other personal costs are to be paid by the participating team prior to departure.

The 33rdHarbin International Ice Sculpture Competition

OBJECTIVES:

To strengthen international ice and snow culture exchanges

To enrich winter life of residents in Northern Areas

To promote international friendship and understanding through the art of ice sculpture

COMPETITION PERIOD:

January 6, 2019 at 09:30 am. through January 8, 2019 at 02:00pm.

TEAM COMPOSITION:

Each team will have a maximum of two persons aged 18 or older. The team members shall reside in or be a citizen of the country represented.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

1. Each team will be provided with a natural ice block of the dimension of 2 m. highx2 m. widex0.6 m. deep. Under the ice block, there is a 0.8 m. high pedestal with inlaid lights.

2. Each team engraves one sculpture. The site of each team will be drawn at random. No theme is imposed on the sculpture, however before creation, the project must be approved by the jury.

3. The block of ice shall be used entirely, and should be sculpted on all four sides in a satisfactory way. Sculptures may be expended 0.5 m. in height or on any side at the discretion of the team, however, only the original volume of ice may be utilized.

4. The only materials allowed are ice and water. No colorants may be added and no other materials may be used in the sculpture. No supports or armature may be used in or on the final sculpture.

5. The team must do their work during the assigned schedule from January 6th, 2019 at 09:30 am. to January 8th, 2019 at 02:00 pm.

6. Only the two enrolled team members can be part of the work. In case of withdrawal of a team member after work has begun, the team must continue on and cannot add another person to the team.

TOOLS:

1. THEME(20 points)

The profound meaning of the theme, and perfect combination of both concept and the form with harmony.

2. ARTISTIC EXPRESSION(30 points)

The novelty in the form, vigorous expressiveness of the sculpture, the strong 3D effect and aesthetic visual impact on the viewer, the perfect composition of figure.

3. CREATIVITY(35 points)

The originality of concept, design and form with creative spirits.

4. TECHNICAL SKILL(15 points)

The maximum use of the block of ice is required. The width, length and height of the final work should be no less than half of the original volume of the block. The block of ice should be sculpted on all four sides in a satisfactory way without cracking.

These results will determine the gold, silver and bronze medalists.

EXPENSES:

The organizer will provide each team with one double room. If there are additional people, the team will be responsible for lodging, meals and transportation of the additional people. Room service, laundry service, long distance phone calls and any other personal costs are to be paid by the participating team prior to departure.

COMPETITION PERIOD:

January 10, 2019 at 09:30 am. through January13, 2019,at 02:00 pm.

TEAM COMPOSITION:

Each team will have a maximum of four persons aged 18 or older. The team members shall reside in or be a citizen of the country represented.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

1. Each team will be provided with a natural snow block of the dimension of 4 m. highx 3m. widex3 m. deep.

2. Each team engraves one sculpture. The site of each team will be drawn at random. No theme is imposed on the sculpture. However before creation, the project must be approved by the jury.

3. Except leaving a pedestal of 0.5 m. high, the block of snow shall be used entirely, and should be sculpted on all four sides in a satisfactory way. Sculptures may be expended 0.5 m. in height or on any side at the discretion of the team. However, only the original volume of snow may be utilized. No power tools are permitted. Only hand tools can be used to construct your sculpture. All teams must provide their own tools.

4. No media other than snow and water may be used. No colorants may be added. No supports or armature may be used in or on the final sculpture.

5. The team must do their work during the assigned schedule from January 10, 2019 at 09:30 am. through January13, 2019 at 02:00 pm.

6. Only the four enrolled team members can be part of the work. In case of withdrawal of a team member after work has begun, the team must continue on and cannot add another person to the team.

TOOLS:

A few of tools will be provided for each team, consisting of a bucket, grindstone, scaffolding, glove, ladder and shovel. Teams will be responsible for the proper care and use of tools provided. Sculptors are expected to provide tools of their own devise. Sculptors use all tools at their own risk and liability.

SCULPTURE DISPLAY:

The competition is held in public and the sculpture will be displayed and remain intact at the competition site through February 15th(weather permitting).

JUDGING:

A jury will be selected from all walks of life and well-known artists by the Organizing Committee and will judge the following points of view:

Room service, long distance phone calls and any other personal costs are to be paid by the participating team prior to departure.
